It is approximately a 13 hour flight to Los Angeles for a brief stop over and then another 5 or so hours to New York, so:

  • Bring comfortable flat roomy shoes to wear in the cabin.
  • Airlines have an entertainment system but you can also bring a book to read, or listen to your own iPod music.
  • It can get chilly on the plane, so pack a jacket or jumper. Blankets and small pillows are provided by the airlines.
  • You might like to bring a neck pillow for a more comfortable sleep.
  • Make sure you have a pen so you can fill out departure details from Sydney and entry details when arriving in New York.
  • Pack some underwear, toothbrush, small toothpaste, hair brush, tissues and small lip gloss in your cabin bag.
  • Pack an EMPTY water bottle and fill it on the plane.
  • Make sure you have your travel diary with you on the plane so you can add to it.
