Draft Itinerary

SATURDAY         09 APRIL             SYDNEY – NEW YORK

SUNDAY              10 APRIL             NEW YORK

Each morning the group will first have a Continental Breakfast

Using the 7 day metro card, ride the subway to Battery Park to board a ferry to Liberty and Ellis Island to see the scenic view of Manhattan and its island and bridges, walk around the Statue of Liberty, and investigate the buildings and displays on Ellis Island. 
Board ferry back to Battery Park and walk to the 9/11 Memorial, view Jeff Koon's 'Balloon Flower' at 7 World Trade Centre and the visit the hi-tech One World Observatory to witness amazing views over New York and New Jersey. Ride the Metro back to hotel.

MONDAY             11 APRIL             NEW YORK

Travel to the Metropolitan Museum of Art! Self guided tour to view the exhibits and other collections in the Museum. Stop for lunch at one of the New York Hot Dog sellers outside the museum. Walk up 5th Avenue to the Guggenheim Museum of Art and view/photograph Frank Lloyd Wright’s building from the Central Park side of the street.  Take a self guided tour inside to experience the spiralling gallery and modern art works. Walk up another block to the Cooper Hewitt Design Museum and take a self guided tour to view current exhibitions. Cross the road to Central Park and head down to the Belvedere Castle, a whimsical miniature castle built in 1869 that looks out over the reservoir. Walk through the park past the Loeb Boathouse. 





TUESDAY            12 APRIL             NEW YORK
Travel by Metro to Museum of Natural History and the Hayden Planetarium and take a self guided tour to find exhibits that featured in the iconic film 'A Night at the Museum'. Watch the amazing presentation in the Hayden Planetarium on 'Dark Universe'. Lunch at the iconic hotdog cafe Gray's Papaya featured in 'You've Got Mail and Sex in the City. Ride the metro to the Museum of Art and Design and engage in an organised workshop Walk past the iconic Apple ‘Cube’ Store on the way back to your accommodation.
After dinner visit the Observatory Level of the Empire State Building to see Manhattan by night.

WEDNESDAY       13 APRIL             NEW YORK

Walk to the High Line elevated walkway to view site specific artworks, videos, performances and sculptures along the way. Detour from the High Line to visit the Gargosian Gallery at West 24th St, Pace Gallery and the Chelsea Markets at 79 9th Ave.
Take a self guided tour at the Whitney Museum of American Art on Gansevoort Street in its new building designed by Renzo Piano. See works by Jeff Koons, Josef Albers and Barbara Kruger among others. Catch the Metro to the Flat Iron District. Walk over to Madison Square Park to view and photograph the Flat Iron Building and the Empire State Building in the opposite direction. Return to hotel by Metro.

See the Broadway show "Something Rotten' in Times Square area at night.







THURSDAY         14 APRIL             NEW YORK

Ride the subway to Grand Central Station to view the historic New York Public Library and see the amazing Art Deco architecture of the Chrysler Building. Tour the inside of the Grand Central Railway to see the iconic clock. Walk down 42nd street to see the United Nations building complex. Return to Grand Central Station and ride the subway across to Queens to take a self guided tour at MOMA PS1 to see contemporary art. Ride the subway to Brooklyn to walk across the iconic Brooklyn Bridge. Take the chance to visit the famous Katz Delicatessen and sample a pastrami on rye. Return to the hotel.

FRIDAY                15 APRIL             NEW YORK

Take the Metro and take a guided tour at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) to see  famous artworks such as Van Gogh’s Starry Night and Dali’s Persistence of Memory. Walk to the Avenue of the Americas to see Robert Indiana's famous "Love' sculpture. Take a Stage Door tour of Radio City Hall. Walk to the Rockefeller centre and visit Times Square.
Head back to the hotel on the Metro.






SATURDAY         16 APRIL             NEW YORK / LOS ANGELES
16 April New York/Los Angeles       DL422     10.00PM/1.30PM
Check out of your hotel and transfer to New York Airport for the flight from to Los Angeles. Thence to the Holiday Inn Express in Hollywood. Walk to Hollywood Boulevard to view the ‘Walk of Fame” stars on the footpath and see a movie at the iconic Chinese Mann Theatre.

SUNDAY              17 APRIL             LOS ANGELES

Using the excellent subway system, visit the Broad Museum of Contemporary Art, and take a tour of the Frank Gehry designed Walt Disney Concert Hall with its Blue Ribbon Rooftop garden with views of the Hollywood sign and surrounding LA. View ‘America Tropical’ a historical public mural by Mexican David Siqueiros, the Arts District and Flea Markets. Lunch at the Grand Central Market. 




MONDAY             18 APRIL             LOS ANGELES

Board the Metro at Hollywood/Vine or Hollywood/Highland to see the film themed decorated subway station.  Visit Universal City/Studio City via shuttle bus.Spend the day investigating movie sets, to see how special effects in movies are made and immerse in the experience of movie making and thrills, taking a number of rides in the park. Ride the extended escalators for an amazing view over Burbank and the movie/television studios.

TUESDAY            19 APRIL             LOS ANGELES

Travel to the Exposition Park to see the California Science Centre and the space shuttle Endeavour. Ride the metro to LACMA and take a self guided our of their art collection, outdoor installations and current exhibitions. Walk next door to the La Brea Tar Pits, and visit world’s most famous Ice Age fossil excavation site. See and smell the bubbling tar pits, and visit the Page Museum to see skeletons and fossils from Ice Age discoveries. Across the road lies a chunk of history – the largest section of the Berlin Wall, not in Germany.  





WEDNESDAY       20 APRIL             LOS ANGELES    
Check out of your hotel. A coach will be available for travel to the Getty Centre.  Visit its art collection and walk through its Central Garden, an evolving work of art.  Travel back to Westwood and walk to The Hammer Museum at UCLA to see  displays of cutting edge art. Travel to Santa Monica to see the iconic Santa Monica Pier and art works that dot the coastline on the way to the airport.




Early evening, travel to Los Angeles International Airport for your flight back to Sydney
